‘’Bananas are fatty. If you want to gain weight, have banana with milk the first thing in the morning’’ Well, this is what moms use to say in India. Parents give banana shake ( with loads of sugar ) to their kids in hope they will pile up a few inches and will look Khate Peete Ghar ka Bachha. I wonder where this myth has got its roots from. Ladies, bananas are no fatty at all. Yes, agree that they contain a bit more calories than the same size apple or melon or plum. But that doesn’t make these poor guys a culprit for your weight gain!!!
First of all, no fruit in moderation is fatty. Second, the calories of fruits are not from complex carbs so they don’t store as fat in body, rather make you feel energetic. Off course, if you will have 5 bananas daily along with other high calorie stuff and rest as a couch potato; you will gain weight. That’s not the fault of this unfortunate fellow that you are lazy and not active. So please shun this thought of bananas being fatty and enjoy them, at least once daily, as a part of balanced diet. I have listed the health benefits and facts about bananas here, please read if you want to know more.
As for today, I am posting the recipe for Banana Fig Soy shake. Another word for shakes, I don’t know why in India, those shopkeepers add sugar in banana shakes. They are already very sweet for that. Anyways, this is a non-dairy Smoothie. I have this almost 3-4 days per week in breakfast, with banana as constant and replacing other fruits. The reason why I keep banana constant is that I don’t like it eating on its own. Yes, you got me, bragging so much about health benefits and not having it. Well, that is the reason I try to find out new ways to include it in my diet. And this smoothie is the greatest one I love so far.
Figs as you may already know are a wonderful fruit in itself. I won’t go on again on Figs so let’s move to the recipe now: D
Ingredients:
1. 1 glass Soy milk
2. 1 banana
3. 2-3 figs, halved
4. 1 apple, chopped in 4
Method:
There is really no method for this. Just chop everything and churn together. And its ready, lovely sweet and refreshing drink. This will make around 2 glasses of Smoothie.
I have added apple as I love its taste with banana, you can skip it. Also, you can replace the soy milk with dairy milk obviously. Try Skim milk for that purpose.
This will be a good breakfast as its full of fibre, potassium, Vitamin C, Protein and Vitamin B6. As obvious, you can play with the ingredients keeping banana constant.
