Pav bhaj is one of the most popular Mumbai style street food. A delicious and wholesome mix of assorted veggies like potatoes, tomatoes, cauliflower, green peas and capsicum is prepared with plenty of onions, ginger and garlic mashed straight on a griddle and flavoured with strong spice mix like garam masala or pav bhaji masala.

This spicy vegetarian dish is served with an Indian bread called pav which tastes better when toasted along with a spoonful of butter. This Mumbaiya dish is a hit all across the Country and everyone loves the easy, filling and relatively healthy food.
It can be served as a complete meal or a snack item and is surely one of the best ways to feed your kids plenty of veggies

Today I have served it with some interesting twist..Pav bhaji bites in shot glasses. This makes a very interesting party serving food item and you can serve it as a finger food rather than in plates. Serve these pav bhaji bites with garlic chutney and toasted paav on top for an awesome evening tea time snack. You could easily serve it for the upcoming Thanksgiving celebrations.

This recipe is a quick version of Pav bhaji and you can see the authentic Mumbai style Paav bhaji here. It is a vegan recipe.

Pav bhaji bites | Easy party recipes
Ingredients
- 3 to 4 small potatoes
- 4 to 5 tomatoes
- 4 to 5 Onions
- 2 big capsicums
- 200 gm green peas
- 100 gm cauliflower
- ½ tsp turmeric powder
- ½ tsp asaofetida hing
- 2 tsp pav.bhaji masala
- 1 tsp garam masala
- 2 tsp to 3 salt
- ½ tsp cumin seed
- 2 tbsp oil
- About 1-2 glasses of water
For garlic chutney:
- 8 cloves to 10 garlic
- 2 tsp red chili powder
- ½ tsp cumin seeds
- ½ tsp salt
For tadka:
- 2 tbsp butter
- ½ tsp red chili powder
Instructions

Boil together potatoes, green peas & cauliflower together in a pressure cooker & mash it with the help of a potato masher

Meanwhile chop all the veggies- capsicums, Onions, tomatoes of about the equal size and keep aside.

In a wide pan, heat oil and add cumin seed and asafoetida. Then add the chopped veggies (onion, tomatoes and capsicum) with salt & red garlic chutney & cook covered for 5-6 minutes

Then add boil & mashed veggies, garam masala, pav bhaji masala & turmeric powder & mix it well. Simmer for 8-10 minutes, mash slightly a few times in between. Add more water and adjust according to the desired consistency.

Now in a tadka pan heat butter, add red chili powder & add into bhaji. Mix well, garnish with coriander & cheese and serve into shot glasses with butter toasted paav on top.
Recipe Notes
Serve with chopped onion and lemon wedges.
